Weekly Woofs 4: The Border Collie Diaries

Zac and his friends - Week 3 2024

What a great week we’ve had! Quite a few laughs and adventures. The Boss said to me yesterday on the way home ‘sometimes you dogs are bonkers!’

You will see that I have put the fun videos up on TikTok for you to see. Some of them have also been uploaded to Instagram and Facebook too. Make sure you follow us on all social media, then you won’t miss anything.

Willow joined us this week for the first time this year, she’s a great girl to have around, quietly cheeky, explores everything and loves a good chase too! Willow is so laid back she can join any of the groups and fit in well. This week she joined me Monday with Nethy, Stan and Lady. We went to Pullingshill Woods in Marlow. Haven’t been there in a while so we did go a bit mad with the excitement and the running around – barking at each other, chasing through the woods, sniffing out the deer scents. We walked along the path at the side of the sheep field. The sheep were watching us especially the four Collies. Then one of the daft things caught sight of us watching them too – as only sheep do, they all went into a silly sheep frenzy and ran across the fields to the other side! At first we watched them confused as we all thought they were being chased, but they weren’t so we carried on our walk without incident. The Boss says we must ignore sheep even though we are Collies. Sometimes I do stare them out mind!

Willow joined us (me, Stan and Rio) Tuesday morning as well we had a walk through the hayfield, played jumps on the hay bales that have been left and wandered down the river. We are still not allowed to swim in the river – too dangerous and dirty. We do more games and running instead, I’m pretty exhausted by the time I get home keeping them all busy and out of mischief.

Tuesday afternoon was a blast! Tess, Otto and Murphy came out and we went down to Dorney wetlands so that Otto could have a big off lead runaround. But! That did mean Murphy would probably run through all the dirty mud and into the Jubilee River. He did not disappoint anyone!

Tess really eggs him on quite a lot and they both looked like swamp monsters at one stage! Tess rolled in some smelly fox poo about three minutes after leaving the van! Then Murphy stuck his head under me to sniff whilst I was busy relieving myself on a tree! As the Boss says ‘dogs!’! Otto had a great time as there are no deer down the wetlands so he can run free and not get into any trouble for deer stalking.

Wednesday was a funny day, I had to wait in all morning for the furniture to be delivered back to the house and then supervise the men as they brought everything back – I was really only checking for the sofa as I’d started to worry that it was gone for good!

Unfortunately, we had to cancel Sparky Wednesday morning, he would have missed his walk so I’ll make it extra special for him next week. I thought we’d cancelled Nethy too, but she turned up on the next walk!

We had a good laugh again on Wednesday afternoon. This time we headed off down the Dorney Thames Path walk – me, Nethy, Seamus, Stan and Poppy (who changed days this week). I found a ball to carry and play with, Stan found an old half a ball and Nethy found a very large stick the size of a small tree that she started running around with. She nearly took a few heads off with that one! Both me and Stan were lucky that the Boss shouted a warning to us – Nethy was coming in quick with a great big stick the size of the whole path! We both ducked in time, Nethy caught the stick on a tree which stopped her in her tracks! As always, she dusted herself down and took off with it again!

No wonder the Boss says she’s a barmy Welsh Collie!

The boss climbed a tree and hid from us! She does that a lot!

Poppy and Seamus are good mates, they play together constantly, this week Poppy was teasing Seamus, playing with him then telling him no! Poor boy was confused by Poppy he ended up playing chase me, chase me on his own! Then of course in she piles and starts to roll him over! She’s a big tease at times! Seamus did go into the Thames despite the Boss saying no one was allowed to! He had a bit of a talking to as the water is fast and dangerous! He stayed out after this, he’s a good boy.

Thursday early morning I saw all the boys, Luke, John and Jasper. Luke and John were still in bed having a lie in when we got there which was funny! We played chase with the Boss that day, she can run quite fast at times and she hides from us if we don’t watch her closely.

Thursday late morning we had the normal crowd of Seamus, Poppy and Rio back down the Hayfield which we all love as there is plenty of space in the field to run around like mad dogs. Great chase games down there.

Last walk of the day we drop everyone and pick up Scout, Stan and Murphy. We always go to the woods for this one. The walk started with a chuckle for me! Not sure the Boss was laughing much! Scout was relieving herself with a number 2, Murphy took an interest in the smell and started to cock his leg over Scout (doh!) the Boss moved very quickly to stop him getting it all over Scout! She succeeded thankfully. Sometime that young dog has no manners! He had no idea what he’d done!

The other notable point of yesterday afternoon is that Stan did not need a shower! First time this year he has gone home clean!

Got home Thursday, had a shower myself then some food and just sitting down for a rest when the door went. I was beside myself when Mum answered the door – it was Nana! Ten minutes later Great Uncle David arrived too. So exciting!

Then, mum told me Nana and Great Uncle David were babysitting me whilst mum and dad went to a party in Wales. Outrageous!

On Friday morning I tried to wake Nana and Great Uncle David before I went to work, but mum said it was too early! They did get up before I went to work mind.

This morning we headed off to pick up Jasper, then Stan and Nethy. A good run out and back home for lunch.

Mum and dad left, I had a cuddle with Nana and now we are heading off to Boulters for our dinner!

Have a great weekend everyone.

love Zac
