Weekly Woofs 10: The Border Collie Diaries

Updated: Mar 31

This week was full of adventures. Sunny days for a change too!

This is me and Otto crossing the muddy stream.

He's on a lead as he had been deer sniffing!

The Boss told him he's not disappearing when we don't know where we are!

Last weekend was a quiet one, lots of house jobs going on Saturday. I managed to get Mum out for a short walk over to the park for a bit of running. Sunday was better though. Me and Mum went to Hungerford RFC to watch the girls play rugby. I had to watch from the car as Mum had forgotten to ask if dogs were allowed! Can you believe it - no dogs allowed on the grass! Ridiculous!

We did have quite a good walk along the Kennet and Avon Canal before the rugby and headed off home straight afterwards so I wasn't snoozing in the car for too long!

Monday, Luke was back in action and boy did he have some surplus energy to get rid of! We had an amazing game of chase and then the boss got us all playing on the hay bales, jumping on and off them, hiding from us so we had to jump on the top to see where she'd gone!

Luke fell off one of the bales, he crashed into me making us all laugh! Although it was fairly early Monday morning we saw lots of people walking in the hayfield.

The Boss said it was because there was so much water still around this walk was one of the few dry walks. Unless of course you go bounding through the large muddy puddles.....John!

Collie Monday was great fun too! Two stops for ball play as we were all in the mood for ball games! The Boss sometimes gets a bit grouchy if you don't let her have the ball back to throw! Me and Stan tease her! Nethy and Lady just get on with it and love the chase game to see who can get to the ball first. What they forget is that by chasing they overrun the ball and I'm the one who sweeps up behind and gets the ball! Stan doesn't bother with chase game - he's not fast enough to compete with those girls!

The Boss plays her own game with Stan sometimes. Pretends to throw it for us then sneakily tells Stan which way to go!

Willow said she enjoyed the walk down at Wooburn Green, lots of woody smells and lots of play with balls and sticks. I forgot we had a stick game too! Here we all are after walking to the top of the hill. A few tongues hanging out there!

Jasper came out with me, Stan and Poppy on Tuesday morning as Rio was having a rest day with his Mum.

Good walk down the river. We were ambling along when there was a great smell of wet deer poop! Me and Jasper went to investigate, possibly with a view to a quick roll! Too late, teh Boss yelled and ran over to us, taking Jasper by his collar so he couldn't roll! I jumped out of my skin and pretended I hadn't noticed it! Poppy also pretended that she hadn't seen it then she snuck back to it! On Tuesday the Boss had eyes everywhere! Poppy and Jasper went on the lead for a few moments until we were clear of the smell!

Further down the track, just as we were turning around to walk back to the van Bertie and Immie turned up. First time we'd seen them out walking this year. They come a little later than us now so we have been missing them. We all had a play and walked back together, I heard the Boss tell Anita that they have to look out for the popp on the way back. Bertie found it first and started to tuck in! OMG the yelling! We all legged it fast! Jasper and Poppy back on the lead for preventative measures

Tuesday afternoon it was only Tess and Otto as Murphy is on holiday. The Boss told us we were heading off for a new walk from her App. We parked up in Wargrave car park and headed off for quite an adventure.

It was a long walk, 8.5km up and down hills. We took in Crazies Hill, Cockpole Green, Wargrave and skirted round Hare Hatch.

This walk had some parts where we were walking along the road on our leads. As all three of us walk well on the lead and have good recall the Boss was happy to take us on a new route.

There was quite a lot of mud at times and a few obstacles in our path!

We met a few dogs and people on the way around. The woods were really muddy and very quiet.

At one stage Otto put his nose into the air and then down on the ground. The boss spotted the deer tracks in the earth...he was on that lead very quickly!

I love new walks as you get to explore everything around, see new sights and smells galore. I also keep a check on the boss so she goes the correct way and doesn't get us lost! She is known for heading off in the wrong direction! Don't tell her I told you mind!

Murphy will be sad he missed this walk, he'd have loved the dirty puddles and muddy paths!!

Wednesday was a fairly quiet walking day. We took Nethy, Sparky and Willow to the Thicket. We headed down the narrow path through the woods to have a play on the rope swings and a stick game.

Me, Nethy and Willow played with the swings whilst Sparky headed off into the undergrowth for some investigations.

For the first time we were all clean going back to the van. We bumped into George and his team by the bridge, stopped for a quick sniff. They were just heading out for their walk.

Wednesday afternoon we took Stan and Seamus to North Town (NT) Moor. It was lovely and sunny, I was a little tired after my morning so wandered along next to the boss. Seamus joined me and so did Stan. No-one was very adventurous on that walk! We did bump into Lucie and her team on the way back to the van for a sniff or two.

Thursday was a more lively day, we kept bumping into groups of our doggy friends, always stopping for a quick sniff and chat. Mid morning we bumped into Harley. Hadn't seen him for ages. He came to say hi, then asked for a big chase! I obliged of course.

Harley and his Mum then walked with us for most of our walk. It was fun.

Later on we bumped into John and his team at NT Moor. We can walk around most of the Moor now that the waters have receded.

Stan was a bit quiet again on Thursday, thankfully Scout was up for a good run out though. I must admit, it was very quiet without Murphy this week!

Today, we picked everyone up and headed off to the Thicket for a rummage in the woods and a great game of ball in the centre field as it is now dry! We also even had a treat game today in the short grass. I think the treat game is everyone's favourite.

The Boss throws some treats randomly and we have to wait and then go find them. It's always a bit chaotic whilst we jostle for the treats! Good fun though. If someone happens to be out muscled then the Boss always hands out treats to them by hand.

Tomorrow I'm taking Dad out for a big walk in the morning whilst Mum goes to the human groomers. Then I get to snooze for a while and watch Ireland beat England at the rugby! Well that's what Mum says. Dad says it's nonsense as England will win! I will be watching out for the tries and doing circles when someone scores regardless!

Have a great weekend everyone, don't forget to follow me on social media. You'll find some great fun videos on our Tik Tok account.

Love Zac x
