Collies in Cars - Are you car conscious?

Updated: Jan 9

As an attentive dog owner are you fully aware of the Highway Code rules around dogs?

The Highway Code Rules 56 & 57 refer to dogs.

Rule 56

Do not let a dog out on the road on its own. Keep it on a short lead when walking on the pavement, road or path shared with cyclists or horse riders.

Rule 57

When in a vehicle make sure dogs or other animals are suitably restrained so they cannot distract you while you are driving or injure you, or themselves, if you stop quickly. A seat belt harness, pet carrier, dog cage or dog guard are ways of restraining animals in cars.

Lots of owners are sadly unaware of their lawful responsibilities regarding the restraint of dogs travelling in cars or walking along our roads.

A good quality padded harness helps to safely restrain a dog in the car when used with seatbelt restraints or fastenings or leads tethered safely. A matching comfortable strong lead for both walking out and about and transfer in and out of the car safely.

Visit our Dog Shop online now to meet your obligations; our main recommendations come from the Ruffwear Front Range Collection:

A Ruffwear Front Range Harness which is padded across the chest and the belly to provide comfort for your dog

Before you buy, please ensure to measure your dog carefully to guarantee best fit. Refer to the video on our blog https://www.colliecapers.co.uk/post/how-to-fit-a-ruffwear-front-range-harnes or if you happen to live locally in Barkshire, call us to arrange a fitting slot.
